NOHA Coaching Development Webinar Series Session Four - Drew Bannister




The NOHA is pleased to announce the details of the fourth session of the NOHA Coaching Development Webinar Series:


Topic: Defensive Breakouts and Transitions

Clinic Structure

The clinic will be delivered in an online webinar format. Clinic attendees will require a laptop with a sufficient internet connection to view the presentation. The presentation will have theory regarding effectively teaching your team defensive retrievals and how to exit your zone, along with corresponding videos that illustrate the topics being explained. We will allow participants the opportunity to ask questions.

Coaches who attend will receive three Certification Maintenance Points towards their Development 1 or High Performance 1 “Certified” Status.

About Drew Bannister

Drew is heading into his third year as the Head Coach of the St. Louis Blues' top affiliate, relocating with the team to Springfield from San Antonio.

He has a wealth of knowledge both as a player and a coach.

His junior playing career included four years with the Soo Greyhounds. During this time, he won two OHL Championships and one Memorial Cup. He was selected to 1994 Canadian World Junior Team, which won Gold in the Czech Republic.

Drew was drafted in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft in the second round to the Tampa Bay Lightning. He enjoyed a long professional career playing for an assortment of NHL teams, including the aforementioned Lightning, the Edmonton Oilers, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, and the New York Rangers. At the conclusion of Drew's playing career, he played for many Professional Teams in Europe. 

After retirement, Drew was named an Assistant Coach with the Owen Sound Attack in 2012. After three seasons with the Attack, he was named the Head Coach of his Junior team, the Soo Greyhounds.

Bannister, led the Ontario Hockey League’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds to a franchise-best 55-7-3-3 mark in 2018, and a Hamilton Spectator Trophy as the OHL’s regular season champion. The Greyhounds also earned the Bumbacco Trophy as West Division winners, and posted a 23-game winning streak en route to the OHL Finals. In addition to the team’s success, Bannister was awarded the OHL’s 2017-2018 Coach of the Year and was named the Canadian Hockey League’s 2017-2018 Coach of the Year.
